Administrative Assistant / Boat Crew (Part-Time, Full-Time for June, July, August)
Job Classification: Part Time (15-20 hours/week from Sept-May, and up to 40 hours/week during June, July, and August)
Location: Portland, OR / Willamette River
Wage: $16-$20/hr DOE (plus earned tips)
General Position Summary:
Do you have a flexible schedule and an interest in gaining hands-on business experience? Island Style Charters is launching a tropical, fun, and festive tiki-style riverboat experience in Portland, and we need someone who is eager to contribute both in the office and on the water.
This position is a hybrid between office support and boat crew. As an administrative assistant, you’ll assist with key business operations, including communications and marketing. As boat crew, you may step into roles such as deckhand, bartender, server, or host (depending on comfort level), which are tipped positions.
From March - October, we cruise Portland’s Willamette River, offering an unforgettable experience for our passengers. This is an opportunity to gain valuable hands-on skills under the mentorship of our Company’s team of professionals in the office and a Master Mariner with 40+ years of experience on the water.
This position requires significant flexibility, including days, long weekends, evenings and holidays. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, reliable, outgoing, and genuinely enjoys working with the public.
Essential Office Operations and Customer Service Functions:

General administrative tasks (such as document management, fielding phone calls and emails).
Assist with tracking of boat-related logs, maintenance, compliance and procedural documents.
Provide support to the sales and coordination team who manage private charter bookings.
Make adjustments in the scheduling systems to accommodate cruise changes.
Support marketing efforts (such as customer and business partnership outreach, assist with development and distribution of marketing materials, creating social media posts).
Assist management with various tasks as needed.
Essential Boat Operations and Customer Service Functions:

Cross-train and fill in for host, bartender, server roles if needed.
Assist with passenger check-in, boarding and disembarking in a safe, friendly manner.
Assist the Captain with docking, mooring, general vessel operations and passenger safety.
Prepare for cruises by cleaning and stocking food, beverages and other supplies.
Use the electronic POS system (Square) to take orders and handle cash/card payments.
Provide great customer service while serving food and drinks with a fun, friendly attitude.
Maintain vessel cleanliness throughout the cruise.
Assist with post-cruise cleanup, re-stocking and daily operational checklists.
Run company errands when needed (such as ice/food/beverage transport).
